World Book Day Assembly for Primary Schools

Celebrated in schools in the UK as well as all over the world every year in March. Book Day is an opportunity to celebrate reading, writers, illustrators and books in general. It’s more than a chance for children to dress up a book character, it’s a chance to look at all the stages of creating and sharing a story as well as what goes in to that process.
Some Ideas -
Create a class story. Each child writes a sentence in turn. When you have enough you could discuss how the story should end and write that together or each child could write their own ending.
Create characters without a story - what would they be like?
Create a life around the characters - where do they live? What clothes do they wear?
Wrap library books in brown paper with a abstract description on the front. The children pick a book based on this alone.
Pick music to accompany stories.
Make a trailer for a book like ones for cinema films.
Make a library treasure hunt from book to book with the clues inside.
